Join Us for our Spring Season

By | News & Events | No Comments

We begin for spring on Monday, January 16th,  7-9 pm. (Come a little early to complete registration and get your music.)

The 16th and the 23rd are open rehearsals. Come check us out at one or both!

We will be masking and social distancing. We hope this policy will not last all spring, but to protect the most vulnerable among us during this time of the latest variant (very high rates in Massachusetts) and flu season, as well as other winter respiratory crud (the official medical term), we are agreeing with one another to mask. You must also be vaccinated and bring proof of such.

To the more fun stuff: We are singing Mozart Requiem and Fanny Mendelssohn’s Hiob with full orchestra. We are joining with Choral Art Society of the South Shore to present these magnificent works. Our concerts are May 6 and 7, both at 4 pm. The first concert will be on the Cape and the second on the south shore.

We are going to have a great deal of fun! We come together with Choral Art Society in February or March for a rehearsal and social, and we rehearse together on May 5th on Cape Cod.

For more information, rehearsal schedule, etc. contact alisonsinging@gmail.com.

We work hard and we also have great joy working together!

Cape Cod Chorale starts rehearsals for the 2022-2023 season on Monday, September 12. Come check us out on one or both of the first two open rehearsals, on the 12th and 19th. We rehearse from 7-9pm every Monday at First Church Sandwich, at 136 Main St., Sandwich. The chorus is conducted by Artistic Director Danica A. Buckley, accompanied by CCC pianist Cathy Bonnett, and for the December concerts we will be joined by Andromeda Brass and Michael Dunford, percussion.

“Singing, and especially in community, is great for your physical and mental health”, notes Buckley.

“We work on vocal technique, choral excellence, and a great variety of programming, from ABBA to Mozart and more. We work hard and have fun. This year is the 40th year of the Cape Cod Chorale! And it’s my ninth. I am privileged to direct this fine group.”

Cape Cod Chorale is non-auditioned, but the director may assist with vocal placement, and you do have to be able to carry a tune and learn and hold a part. To register for the open rehearsals and to receive more information on joining and our current covid policy, contact membership director, Alison McMurry at alisonsinging@gmail.com.

We hope to see you at one or both of the opening rehearsals! Come sing a joyful program with us.

December concerts are on Saturday, December 10th at 7pm and Sunday, December 11th at 4pm, both at First Church Sandwich.

Cape Cod Chorale Awards Scholarship

By | News & Events | No Comments

The Cape Cod Chorale is pleased to announce the 2022 recipient of the Barbara Knight Memorial Scholarship. Barbara Knight was a tenor in the chorale for many years and served on the chorale board as well. She passed away in 2016 at the age of 87. She had retired as a captain in the U.S. Navy and was one of the first women to attain that rank. She also had a distinguished career as a social worker. The scholarship is awarded to a high school senior from Cape Cod who is planning to pursue a college academic course toward a career in music.

This year’s recipient is Paige Burkey from Sandwich High School, where she has been a member of the advanced show choir Sandwich Soul, the traditional advanced honors choir Sandwich Singers, as well as Sandwich High School’s Knights Theatre Company. She has had many roles in these groups, recently performing as “Donna”, one of the leads in the musical Mama Mia. She also served as a teacher’s assistant this year for the Sandwich Middle School chorus. Her teachers describe her as a kind, compassionate leader and a fierce academic achiever who is hardworking and dedicated. Paige is planning to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston in the fall. She will double major in vocal performance with a concentration in musical theatre and in music education.

The Barbara Knight Memorial Scholarship awards $500 to a high school senior every year. The student is eligible for a renewal of the $500 each year they continue to be in good academic standing in their music major. The 2021 recipient, Anna Item, is from Marstons Mills and is majoring in Musical Theatre at Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania. The 2020 recipient, Genevieve Sull, is from Chatham and is majoring in songwriting at Berklee College of Music.
