April Concert: Music of the Beatles

By | News & Events | No Comments

Join the Cape Cod Chorale on April 28 and 29 for Music of the Beatles.

Ecce Cor Meum – Behold My Heart is a choral suite by Sir Paul McCartney. The work became McCartney’s tribute to Linda after she died of cancer in 1998; in particular, the yearning Interlude – the central movement and heart of the piece – which he wrote in the midst of his grief for her. Following the premiere in November 2006, the work was hailed as a phenomenal success, and the recording was awarded the Album of the Year Classical BRIT award in May 2007. Ecce Cor Meum features Kristin Howard, Soprano.

On the lighter side, the chorale will give a different spin to a roundup of Beatles hits, including When I’m Sixty-Four, Can’t Buy Me Love, Good Night, Yesterday, Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da, and more!

Saturday, April 28, 7:30 pm
Sunday, April 29, 4:00 pm

Both concerts are at First Church, Sandwich, 136 Main St. The venue is accessible.

Tickets are $20 general admission and ages 18 and under, free. They are available online or at the door; we recommend you buy your tickets early, as we expect these concerts to sell out.

Ways to support Cape Cod Chorale

By | News & Events | No Comments

Dear Friends of the Cape Cod Chorale,

I cannot believe it is my fourth season already! We have performed a wide variety of music together, from Bach to Britten, from Handel to Haydn, from Mozart to Mendelssohn, and a lot of other composers and styles in between those well-known fellows.

Highlights from last season included our spectacular Christmas concert, Viva Vivaldi with our first “Pop-Up Hallelujah” from Messiah. About 25 people came-up from the audience to sing this famous piece with the Chorale and chamber ensemble. Our friend at WFCC filmed it and put it on their Facebook page, where it rapidly became the most frequently seen video! In spring, we delighted audiences with a concert full of ebullient, vivacious music from Vienna. Haydn’s Te Deum and others were very well received. We presented our second annual Cabaret au Chocolat, a fundraiser for our scholarship and for the work of the Chorale. We had a huge crowd happily eating chocolate, listening to our concert, and bidding on wonderful silent auction items. We presented our scholarship winner, Hannah Wolfe, senior at Barnstable High School, with a $1000 check to help her expenses at Carnegie Mellon, where she is majoring in Vocal Performance. We have heard that she loves her school and singing every day, learning more and more repertoire.

Since 1982 the Cape Cod Chorale has delighted audiences with a wide range of classical and contemporary choral works, performing 5-6 times a year in mid-Cape venues. This year, we are pleased to perform all of our December and April concerts at First Church Sandwich. We hope you can help us continue to bring great music to our communities.

Our concerts are well attended, and many local businesses advertise in our program booklet, but ticket sales & advertising do not cover all the costs of running a chorus (or any arts organization), so to provide choral excellence in this 35th season and beyond, we ask for your donation to Friends of the Cape Cod Chorale.

Music is vital in communities, and I believe in this community chorus; it is not just a job for me; bringing people together to rehearse each week is an honor, and I therefore personally contribute each year to the Friends campaign. I so look forward to Monday evening rehearsals and to our concerts!

Your contribution at any level of giving helps support our scholarship and performances.

Checks in any amount, from $10-$10,000, can be made payable to Cape Cod Chorale (a 501c3 organization). Please see more information here, or donate online today. I hope to meet you at our concerts! Follow us on Facebook, too!

In harmony,

Danica A. Buckley, Artistic Director and Conductor
